I'm looking for at least 10 people to assist me next week gathering petition signatures...LEARN MORE BELOW and then send me a direct message if you can assist OR visit, www.michaelgainerformayor.com/volunteer.
Quick story . . . I'm pretty new to politics! While working on collecting petition signatures last year for Terrence Robinson, Chris Hawley convinced me to run for my first elected position last year, Democratic Committee Person. I collected 40 signatures the day before the deadline (i needed 33 signatures to quality for the ballot). My neigbor Taj Richardson and I got on the ballot, went door to door meeting and talking with our neighbors, and then won in the election by a margin of 3 to 1.
People want to be heard! People want a choice when they are voting. People want to support the process and are often encouraged by your care and involvement. Join me in giving people more choice and more access to the democratic process!
The first hurdle in seeking political office: petitioning to gain ballot access. I'm looking for ten friends who can assist next week with petitioning in our neighborhoods.
Requirements: You must be a registered Democrat to carry petitions, you must be physically able to walk door to door (it's a great way to get in your steps), and you must be comfortable greeting people and engaging them on their doorstep. You can start right in your own neighborhood, so it's accessible and easy. We'll get everything ready for you and show you the ropes!
The Pitch: The thing to focus on with each voter (and we'll be specifically targeting folks we know are registered Democrats), this is about helping the candidate get on the ballot so voters have a choice in the primary. This is not an endorsement or a "vote", this is about access. People will often engage or ask about the candidate, feel free to share any information you'd like about why you are supporting the candidate.
The Rules: You must witness the registered voter, signing the petition. They can't sign for someone else. You'll have a "walk list" of registered voters and the signer's name should match the name on your list.
The Goal: We'll need a few thousand signatures to get on the ballot, and every signature matters. If you have 10 minutes or a few hours, your contribution will make a huge difference for the effort.
Onward and thank you!
