Michael Gainer fully supports term limits for all city offices

Sean Ryan says:

“We all like the framers of the constitution . . . nothing in that document talks about term limits.”

Michael Gainer says:

“We need to embrace term limits to increase competition, accountability and engagement in the political process.”

We do not need another 20-year mayor in the City of Buffalo.

Since 2001, in City of Buffalo elections, the incumbent won 98% of the time.

With term limits there will be more accountability, more competition,
more open elections, and more discussion of ideas.

So how do we do it?  We use the Charter Revision Process
(happening right now), to pass a Citizen’s Bill of Rights.

Here’s what my administration will work tirelessly to accomplish!

A citizen’s bill of rights!

A working document

Pass democratic reforms
to improve electoral
accountability and competition.

  1. Open primaries.  Every candidate regardless of party participates in one primary.  The top vote getters move on to the general election.
  2. Term limits – limit all city-wide elected offices to two four-year terms.
  3. End vacancy appointments for elected positions.  Vacancies shall be filled by special election within 90 days.

Protect established parklands and restore parkland originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, specifically the parkways connecting Delaware Park to MLK Park (then Humboldt Park).

Establish “Neighbors Building Neighborhoods” Councils that direct the problem solving, decision making and planning for each district.

Establish City Action Corps, a city-wide conservation corps program that trains young people while improving the natural and built environment in every neighborhood in the city.

Your ideas?

This is just the beginning!  Share your ideas for how we can improve the functioning of city government.  How do we get more people and ideas involved?  How do we make the process more efficient and responsive?  How do we get more work done that improves the quality of life in every neighborhood?
